We are pleased to announce that Vishtèn will soon be recording a new album! The 4th album of the band highlights more than 10 years of a successful international career and continues their musical adventure!

Depuis la formation du groupe, notre vision a misé à faire découvrir, à faire connaître et à faire rayonner la musique traditionnelle acadienne à des auditeurs un peu partout dans le monde. Il est important pour nous que la musique traditionnelle vive et respire dans le présent, qu’elle soit créative en offrant un son contemporain tout en conservant l’esprit de ses racines.

Since the band’s inception, our vision has been to introduce Acadian traditional music to audiences around the world. It is important for us that traditional music lives and breathes in the present, that it be a creative experience and that it offers a contemporary sound, all while being rooted within our culture.

Au cours des années, les expériences musicales, les rencontres, les sonorités diverses ont influencé notre musique et pour cette raison nous avons décidé de nommer ce nouvel album « Mosaïk ». Comme une mosaïque comprend plusieurs petits morceaux multicolores assemblés pour composer une pièce d’art, notre musique est influencée par une multitude d’expériences vécues et notre album sera le résultat unique de ces diverses sources d’inspirations.

The musical experiences, the people we meet, and the different sounds that we hear have all influenced our music, which is why we’ve chosen to name this new album Mosaïk, as a mosaic is a work of art made of numerous small pieces fitted together. Our music is influenced by a multitude of lived experiences, and our album will be the unique result of these diverse inspirational sources.

Nous travaillons cet album avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme puisque nous avons beaucoup de musique à partager avec vous. Pour que ce projet soit financièrement possible, nous avons décidé d’y faire une prévente. Une gamme de forfaits sont disponibles. Votre généreuse contribution vous permet de participer au projet et c’est ainsi que vous devenez une partie importante de cette aventure musicale!

We are working on this album with great enthusiasm, as we have a lot of new music to share with you! However, in order to make this project financially possible, we need your help. We have decided to start a presale of the album, which will also include other exciting surprises! With your generosity, you will be contributing to the project, as well as becoming an important part of this musical adventure!

Nous enregistrons l’album au studio d’Éloi Painchaud (producteur, ingénieur et musicien reconnu), dans les mois d’hiver et nous planifions sa sortie au printemps 2012. Votre contribution vous permettra d’obtenir l’album (ainsi que les récompenses des forfaits) avant la sortie officielle au grand public. Vous pourrez suivre les progrès de la création de notre album par le biais de notre blogue, photos et vidéos. L’argent de la prévente aidera à payer les frais de production, du graphisme, de la fabrication du CD et des outils de promotion.

The album will be recorded by Éloi Painchaud, recognized producer, engineer and musician, this winter. We are planning to release in the spring of 2012. By contributing to the project, you will be the first to receive the album, before it is released in the stores! We will also keep you updated every step of the way, as we will post stories, videos and pictures on our band’s blog. The money raised will help pay the production fees, graphic design, CD manufacturing and promotional tools.

Musique de partout au monde, site montagnard à Black Mountain, NC, plusieurs milliers de campeurs, arts de la guérison et un équipe incroyable ! Ceci c'est LEAF... nous avons été ébloui par la beauté de ce festival, tant pour l'expérience musicale que pour le plaisir de pouvoir découvrir cette communauté dynamique de gens qui organise et qui supporte les arts et la musique. On adore LEAF !

Voici une photo qu'on a fait faire sur le site du festival par un des artisans. Il offrait des sessions de photos à l'ancienne, technique du 19e siècle avec une très vieille caméra. Les photos sont fabriquées à la main et sorte sur une feuille de métal. Trop cool !! Nous comprenons maintenant pourquoi les gens ne souriait pas beaucoup... on a eu besoin de rester sur place pour plusieurs longues minutes pour allez à travers du processus !

Here's a souvenir pic that was taken on site from one of the many artisans. Photography 1851 was offering handcrafted tintype photography using 19th century techniques. Very cool ! We understand why people didn't smile much on older photos.. we had to stand still for several long minutes to get through this photo ! check it out ! www.photography1851.com

Livre de tounes acadiennes/Acadian Tune Book !

Le tout nouveau livre ' LES FAISEUX DE TOUNES' a été lancé officiellement la semaine passé ! C'est le premier répertoire de compositions acadiennes de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Le livre contient 148 nouvelles tounes, écrites par 34 compositeurs.
Ce projet a été initié et mené par notre amie Anastasia Desroches, talentueuse joueuse de violon de l'île qui a un grand amour pour la musique de chez nous. Il a été appuyé par la Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard (FCÎPÉ) et a pour objectif de recenser les nouvelles compositions (aussi nommées 'tounes' à travers le livre) pour mettre en valeur la vitalité de la musique acadienne, créée par des compositeurs d'aujourd'hui.
En étant un groupe acadien qui tourne beaucoup de le circuit des festivals folk et celtiques, ce livre représente une étape importante dans la promotion de notre culture et nous en sommes très excité ! On nous demande souvent 'C'est quoi des tounes acadiennes et c'est quoi la différence avec les autres styles de musique traditionnelles?' ou bien 'Où est-ce qu'on peut apprendre des pièces acadiennes?'. Nous pouvons maintenant leur suggérer ce merveilleux outil et l'utiliser comme référence puisqu'il aide à mieux définir le style acadien de chez nous!

The brand-new PEI Acadian tune book 'TUNESMITHS' was launched last week! It's the first collection of Acadian compositions from Prince Edward Island. The book has 148 tunes, written by 34 composers.
This project has been initiated by our friend Anastasia Desroches, a talented fiddler from PEI who has a great love for the music of our area. PEI's French cultural federation (FCÎPÉ) has supported the project and has an objective of identifying new compositions and highlighting the vitality of the new Acadian music created by today's composers. As an Acadian band, touring many festivals in the folk and celtic circuit, this book represents a lot for us. It's an important step towards the promotion of our culture and we are very excited! We are often asked 'What is an Acadian tune and how is it different from other tunes?' or 'Where can we learn Acadian tunes?' We now have this wonderful book to suggest and we can use it as a reference since it helps to define the Acadian style of the island.

Acadian & Irish meet at Lupin Valley !

Un des premiers albums de violon qui a joué dans notre maison, était celui de Liz Carroll.. en faite, ce n'était pas un album mais un vinyl que notre père avait ramassé d'une collection de musique de violon à l'île et il s'appelle 'A Friend Indeed' avec le pianiste Marty Fahey. Sa musique été une grande source d'inspiration et continue à l'être, alors c'était un moment vraiment touchant et excitant quand Liz a demandé à Pastelle de la joindre sur la scène pour quelques tounes !! Voici un vidéo de Pastelle et Liz, accompagné de Jake Charron à la guitare. 
L'homme en arrière de la caméra est nul autre que Pascal ;)


One of the first fiddle albums to play in the house when we were young was Liz Carroll's.. actually, it wasn't a cd but a vinyl that our father had picked up from a fiddle collection on the island and it was called 'A Friend Indeed' with the piano player Marty Fahey. Her music was a great source of inspiration and continues to be, so it was quite the moment when Liz asked Pastelle to join her on stage for a few tunes !! Here's a video of them playing a few tunes, accompanied by Jake Charron on guitar.
It was all wonderfully taped by Pascal, which you can hear hooting in the near background ;)

Les Yeux Noirs- Small Town Sessions

Vishtèn @ ECMA- Charlottetown 2011

On se prépare pour une semaine très excitante à l'AMCE. Notre coup de coeur sera surement le spectacle de jeudi soir, où nous partagerons la scène avec la Symphonie de la Nouvelle-Écosse, pour le spectacle 'A Sound Celebration'.

Ce spectacle, présenté au Théâtre Homburg, mettra en vedette plusieurs artistes talentueux de l'île et ce sera surement une expérience inoubliable. On sera aussi en vitrine pendant la fin de semaine pour le délégués internationaux ainsi qu'à la scène francophone. Il y aura PLEIN de bonne musique partout en ville et on espère de vous y voir :)

We're getting geared up for the ECMA week and we're getting really excited about it! One of the highlights of the week will be playing with Symphony Nova Scotia for the show 'A Sound Celebration', presented at the Homburg Theatre on Thursday April 14th.

The show features many talented island artists and it will be an incredible experience. We'll also be showcasing for the international delegates and on the Francophone stage. There will be LOTS of great music all over town, hope to see you there :)
